2009 Detroit Lions Season Schedule
Posted June 18, 2009 by Steve Janus
Looking at the Detroit Lions’ 2009 schedule, that Week 8 home game against the Rams sure looks like a potential victory. Other than that, Detroit might not be favored once. But it’s almost impossible for this team to go 0-16 again, being as no team had done it before.
Will No. 1 overall pick Matthew Stafford be the starting QB in Game 1, or will the Lions take it slowly with him?
For the first time since 1985, and for only the second time in franchise history, the Lions’ home schedule includes games against the previous year’s Super Bowl teams.
“While we’ve made a point of not looking too far ahead, there’s obviously unique interest and great anticipation for the regular season schedule,” Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said. “The thing that immediately jumps out at me is our division games. Those are crucial and we play each of our division rivals within the first six weeks of the season.”
That opener in New Orleans marks the third straight year the Lions open the season on the road. Detroit opens its home schedule against Minnesota for the second time in three years. The Vikings came the closest to losing to Detroit last year than any other team.
The Lions get to close the season at home for the first time since 2003. This year’s schedule also is the first time Detroit will play at Green Bay prior to December since 2003.
Detroit is +15000 to win Super Bowl XLIV on WagerWeb.com, by far the longest odds on the board.
