2010 Kentucky Derby Preview

Posted April 29, 2010 by Joseph D'Amico

The 2010 Run For The Roses is just days away.

The big news is the scratching of early favorite Eskendeyra.

Trainer Todd Pletcher announced Sunday that swelling in the horses left front knee was a concern and the horses health comes before anything.

This makes Looking for Lucky the odds on favorite at 3-1.

Trained by the well known Bob Baffert, this is a quality horse.

He had an outstanding 2 year old campaign

As a 3 year old, he won the Rebel then was slammed into the rail at the Santa Anita Derby to finish 3rd .

He has been looking great in morning workouts at Churchill.

He draws the #1 position.

Remember he has only lost 2 of his 8 races.

With Eskenderya out, Pletcher put in Devil May Care who is 10-1.

She is a solid horse.

The Grade 1 winning Filly has a shot to be in the money.

But take note that of the 39 fillie’s to run in the Derby, only 3 has ever won it.

Pletcher-traned horses are 0-24 in the Derby.

Some front-running speed balls are American Lion, Conveyance, Line of David, Super Saver, and Sidney’s Candy.

Sidney’s Candy at 5-1 appears to be the best of the bunch but has never won on an all-dirt track.

Noble Promise at 12-1 has a lot of value.

He worked out great and drew the 3rd position.

For all you long-shot bettor’s out there, throw this horse in the mix.

Only ¾ of a length separated Noble Promise from Looking At Lucky in their 3 races together.

This horse is overlooked and has a lot of value.

The Nick Zito-trained Ice Box is another horse to keep an eye on. Zito has been known to light up the toteboard.

He is 10-1.

There you have it. 5 horses from favorites to longshots that look to be the cream of the crop this year.

So sit back and enjoy the biggest race in the Sport of King’s. Thank you
