Baseball Betting: American League Power Poll

Posted June 9, 2009 by Steve Janus

There are still only five teams in the American League to be on the plus side of the sports MLB betting proceedings this year thanks to how strongly the Rangers have played. It doesn’t look like anyone can run them down in the near future, but will someone step up and go on a run? Check out BetUS’s list of the top AL $$$ teams in the bigs continuing into June…

1) Texas Rangers (33-23, +$1,296) (3-3, +$158 LW) (LW: 1) When you play three games in Yankee Stadium and three games at Fenway Park and walk away with a split, you deserve to have earned money. That’s what the Rangers did this week thanks to a nice mix of pretty good hitting and better than average pitching. They come home this week, where they are 18-9 on the season.

On Deck: vs. Blue Jays, vs. Dodgers

2) Boston Red Sox (33-24, +$307) (4-2, +$113 LW) (LW: 4) The Bo Sox swept Detroit and outscored them 21-9 in three games, but then came home and dropped two out of three to the Rangers. This week is difficult, as the Yanks formed their rotation around winning this series, and then they have to travel to play the champs.

On Deck: vs. Yankees, @ Phillies

3) Detroit Tigers (30-25, +$295) (2-4, -$274 LW) (LW: 2) Detroit snapped a four-game losing streak by winning the L/2 games of its series against the Halos over the weekend. Its AL Central cushion is still five games in the loss column, but that can disappear in a hurry, as the next five are all at US Cellular Field.

On Deck: @ White Sox, @ Pirates

4) Toronto Blue Jays (32-27, +$277) (3-3, -$27 LW) (LW: 3) Toronto posted another losing week after starting the season off on absolute fire. It wrapped up a nine-game home stand at 5-4, which really isn’t good enough to hang around with the big boys in the AL East. Not only are the Jays losing ground to the Yanks and Sox, but the Rays are only 2.5 games behind.

On Deck: @ Rangers, vs. Marlins

5) Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (28-27, +$216) (3-3, +$49 LW) (LW: 5) Hey Anaheim, isn’t it time to make a move? The Halos are still just a game above the Mason-Dixon Line and really aren’t closing any ground on the Rangers. Yes, they’re only 4.5 games back with over 100 to play, but it feels like this team should be doing better than 3-3 in the average week. Another pair of contenders are on deck.

On Deck: @ Rays, vs. Padres

6) New York Yankees (33-23, -$25) (4-2, +$22 LW) (LW: 7) Only the Yankees can figure out how to go 4-2 in a week and still almost lose money. They lost as -201 favorites to David Price and the Rays on Saturday, and preceded that by losing as -177 favorites to Scott Feldman and the Rangers on Wednesday. The rotation was setup perfectly for the trip to Fenway, a series that Yankees bettors feel that they must win.

On Deck: @ Red Sox, vs. Mets

7) Seattle Mariners (28-29, -$171) (4-2, +$130 LW) (LW: 9) The M’s are starting to get back into the discussion once again after posting a 4-2 home stand. The offense has been horrid this season, averaging just 3.77 runs per game, the worst in the majors. The good news is that the pitching staff ranks 2nd in baseball with a 3.74 ERA. No wonder this team has played eight ‘unders’ in its L/10.

On Deck: @ Orioles, @ Rockies

8) Oakland Athletics (25-30, -$263) (6-1, +$603 LW) (LW: 14)
Talk about going from the outhouse to the penthouse! The A’s had the best week of any team in baseball, picking up six straight ‘W’s to close the week out. In that stretch, they only allowed eight runs.

On Deck: vs. Twins, @ Giants

And the rest…

9) Minnesota Twins (28-30, -$303) (3-3, +$37 LW) (LW: 10)

10) Tampa Bay Rays (29-29, -$387) (4-1, +$385 LW) (LW: 12)

11) Chicago White Sox (26-30, -$500) (2-5, +$464 LW) (LW: 6)

12) Baltimore Orioles (24-33, -$662) (1-5, -$388 LW) (LW: 8)

13) Kansas City Royals (24-32, -$772) (1-5, -$392 LW) (LW: 11)

14) Cleveland Indians (25-34, -$932) (3-4, +$253 LW) (LW: 13)
