The PGA Tour’s three-week swing through Texas finishes this week with the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, which unfortunately might be more noteworthy for who’s not playing in the event.

With Tiger Woods set to return to the Tour next week at the Memorial, he is taking another week off. And Phil Mickelson, the defending champion, also won’t be at historic Colonial in the wake of the news last week that his wife is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

That’s not to say there’s not a quality field, as six of the top money-winners on Tour are here: Geoff Ogilvy, Zach Johnson, Sean O’Hair, Kenny Perry, Rory Sabbatini and Paul Casey. Ogilvy and Johnson are the only two players in the field to have won twice on Tour this year.

Past winners of this event in the field are Sabbatini (2007), Tim Herron (2006), Perry (2003, 2005), Steve Flesch (2004), Corey Pavin (1985, 1996), Tom Lehman (1995), Fulton Allem (1993) and Ian Baker-Finch (1989).

Perry is the fourth-favorite this week on WagerWeb.com at +1300. He also has a tie for second to go with those two wins in Fort Worth since 2002. However, just two of his last 10 rounds at Colonial have been under par.

Johnson is the third-favorite on WagerWeb.com at +1250, and he just won two weeks ago at the Valero Texas Open win. He hasn’t placed outside the top 30 in three starts at Colonial.

Justin Leonard (+2500) has to be considered for any event in Texas. He has five top-10s at Colonial (second in 2003) and has made the cut 15 straight times at this tournament. He is coming off a T16 at the Byron Nelson Championship and T5 at the Valero Texas Open.

But the favorite this week is Casey, +900 on WagerWeb.com. The world No. 3, an Englishman, Casey has won three tournaments this season (two in Europe, one on the PGA Tour), but will make his debut at Colonial. Casey is coming off a victory in the BMW PGA Championship, which Casey considers a “flagship” of the European Tour.

If you want a long shot, look to Rod Pampling. He is +3000 on WagerWeb.com but has top-12 finishes in the past four Colonials. Also consider Brian Davis (+2750), who was runner-up last week and has three top-5 finishes in a row overall.
