National League Pitching Power Poll: May 26th
Posted May 26, 2009 by Steve Janus
The month of June is almost here, meaning that baseball betting is about to become king for the summer! Check out BetUS Sportsbook’s list of the top $$$ pitchers the National League has to offer heading into Memorial Day!
1) Eric Stults, Los Angeles Dodgers (6-1, +$553) (LW: 1) A thumb injury has set Stults back a few days for his next start. Perhaps it’s good for the young lefty, as he is probably still trying to recover from throwing 123 pitches two starts ago. Look for him to be back on the mound this week.
2) Wandy Rodriguez, Houston Astros (7-2, +$514) (LW: 4) Rodriguez stymied the Brew Crew last week, allowing just one run over 7.0 innings. He still hasn’t allowed more than three runs in any start this season, but the difference between now and April is that the Astros are at least scrapping together some runs for him. The lefty hasn’t been beaten since April 23rd, and really hasn’t had an awful start this season.
3) Chad Billingsley, Los Angeles Dodgers (8-2, +$461) (LW: 2) Billingsley probably had his worst two starts of the season last week, as he gave up a total of eight runs over just 12.1 innings. He picked up the win against the Mets, but was handed his second loss of the season against the Halos on Sunday. Manager Joe Torre must be careful with LA’s prize righty, as he has thrown at least 105 pitches in nine straight starts.
4) Jason Marquis, Colorado Rockies (6-3, +$426) (LW: NR) After getting shelled for nine runs in just 3.2 innings against the Astros on May 13th, Marquis came out on the road and posted two big time victories at +176 and +129. He gave up four runs (three earned) in 15.2 innings. At 6-3, Marquis may be making himself trade bait for a contending team around the deadline.
5) Jon Garland, Arizona Diamondbacks (6-3, +$425) (LW: NR) Speaking of arms that may be moved at the deadline, Jon Garland is a fantastic candidate as well. The D’Backs is simply awful this season, but it hasn’t been the righty’s fault. He’s only had one truly awful start in his L/7, and he’s got wins at +160, +160, and +135 this month already.
6) Jeff Suppan, Milwaukee Brewers (6-3, +$425) (LW: NR) Suppan continues giving Manager Ken Macha consistent outings. He allowed three runs in five innings in Houston last week, which is spectacular, but isn’t miserable either. The righty hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs since April 12th, a span of seven straight starts.
7) Mitchell Boggs, St. Louis Cardinals (4-0, +$400) (LW: 6) Boggs hasn’t made an appearance since May 14th for the big-league Cards, but he’ll continue to be on this list until some of the bigger names from right behind him catch up. If he comes back to St. Louis’ rotation, keep an eye on this rookie, as he had a 3.22 ERA in 22.1 IPs this season.
Back in the bullpen…
Josh Johnson, Florida Marlins (LW: 3)
Livan Hernandez, New York Mets (LW: 5)
Shairon Martis, Washington Nationals (LW: 7)
