The Miami Heat blew a 13-point lead in the 4th quarter allowing the 76ers to score 12 straight points. The Heat hit 31 if 39 free throws while the 76ers were just 12-15. The Heat won the rebound battle 52-39. Chris Bosh led the way with 25 points and 12 rebounds. LeBron James hit just 4-14 shots but finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds. The Heat is 4-0 versus the 76ers this season and has won 16 of 19 games overall. The 76ers bench came up big with 36 points. Andre Iguodala scored just 4 points on 2-7 shooting.

The Atlanta Hawks pulled the biggest upset of the day by knocking off the Orlando Magic 103-93. Dwight Howard was superman scoring 46 points and snatching 19 rebounds. Jameer Nelson did his part scoring 27 points but the remaining players scored a combined 20 points. The Hawks had a well-balanced attack that saw five players score at least 13 points. The Hawks shot an impressive 51% from the field and 72% from the free throw line. The Magic continue to struggle form the charity stripe hitting 19 of 31 free throws. The Hawks pressured the Magic into 18 turnovers and turned it over just nine times.  The Magic struggled from beyond the arc hitting six of 22 attempts.

The Dallas Mavericks received a big night from Jason Kidd, a career best six 3-pointers and 24 points, in route to an 89-81 victory. Dirk Nowitzki scored 18 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter after a very slow start. LaMarcus Aldridge led the way for the Trail Blazers with 27 points. The Trailblazers have lost 14 of their 16 road playoff games. The Mavericks hit 25-29 free throws while the Trailblazers hit just 9-13 free throws. Dallas hit 51% of their three point attempts while Portland was just 13%. The Trailblazers had 22 assists to just 14 for the Mavericks.

The 2nd day of the playoffs saw three favorites go down and the other favorite squeezed out a victory. The New Orleans Hornets set a record with only three turnovers in their 109-100 upset win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Chauncey Billups injured his leg in the final minute of the Boston Celtics 87-85 win over the New York Knicks. The Underdogs were a money making 7-1 over the first two days. There were controversial calls in two of the games that affected the outcome of the games.

The Memphis Grizzlies capitalized in their 101-98 win over the top seeded San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs missed the offense of Manu Ginobli. The Grizzlies pounder the ball inside and scored 40 points in the paint. Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol combined for 49 points on 19-35 shooting and cleaned the glass with 19 rebounds. Point guard Mike Conley had 10 of the teams 22 assists.

Chris Paul struggled over his last 10 games shooting just 40% from the field. He shrugged it off and hit 11 of 18 shots and dished out 14 assists, as a team the Hornets shared the ball for 24 assists, with only two of the teams record setting three turnovers. The Hornet’s bench was a force scoring 39 points on the road while Lakers reserves only pitched in 21 points. The Lakers interior defense allowed for 52 points in the paint. The Lakers were not able to solve the pick and roll offense of the Hornets. Kobe Bryant had a minor head injury but finished with 34 points.

The New York Knicks were not happy with a late game offensive foul on Carmelo Anthony. Anthony was catching the basketball when called for the ticky tack foul in a physical game. Billups was missed at the end of the game as the as Anthony had two missed shots and two turnovers in his last four possessions. Kendrick Perkins scored a basket with just over a minute left in the game. The Celtics were efficient on the offensive end of the court with 20 assists and won the rebounding battle 39-29.

The Oklahoma Thunder went to their two all-stars to outlast the Denver Nuggets. Forward Kevin Durant scored a playoff career high 41 points and nine rebounds and Russell Westbrook scored 31 points and dished out seven assists. The Nuggets had five players score in double digits but lacked a go-to- guy in the final seconds of the game. The Nuggets scored 46 points in the paint and dished out 23 assists. The Nuggets were horrible from beyond the arc hitting just 4-16 attempts while the Thunder looked sharp hitting 9-19 attempts.

The league best San Antonio Spurs look to end their nine-game road trip with a seventh victory against the Bulls who are also looking promising before the All-Star break with their 15th win in 16 games. The Spurs come into this game with three win streaks of 8 games or more, and is the NBA’s top road team with a 21-7 record.

San Antonio opened their road trip with a loss to Portland but since has won six of seven. They did put up a loss against Philadelphia after a bad shooting night but came back with a 24-point win at Washington and added another win against New Jersey on Monday. With a win tonight the Spurs would have their best record on their annual rodeo trip since 2002-03 when they headed into the break with eight straight wins. They also went on to win the NBA title that season.

Chicago cannot wait to have an extra boost of Joakim Noah returning from a thumb injury after the break. The Bulls however have been doing well without him. Only the Spurs have a better record than the Bulls since Dec.26. They just won their ninth game out of 11 with Luol Deng dropping 24 points in a 106-94 victory over Charlotte. Chicago has given up an average of 84.5 points in the last 15 games at the United Center.

The last time these two teams met on Nov. 17 Chicago was missing Carlos Boozer that could have been a key to their loss. Tim Duncan had 16 points and 18 rebounds with San Antonio making a comeback from a 17-point first-half deficit to win 103-94. Taj Gibson, who was filling in for Boozer, missed all of his seven shots and had no points. Boozer put up great numbers against the Spurs last season with the Jazz, averaging 25.8 points, and 11.3 rebounds in four wins. With all the eyes being on the Boozer and Duncan matchup Dejuan Blair is what might give the Spurs the edge in the paint with Noah out. He has averaged 13.4 points and 11 rebounds on the road trip.

This game also features two of the league’s best scoring point guards in Derrick Rose who scored 33 points in their first meeting and Tony Parker who had 21. These teams have split the last four visits to Chicago but the Spurs are 31-2 when Parker scores 17 points or more. This should be a battle in the paint and the backcourt. Game Analysis: Chicago notched a big road win last night in Washington to keep pace in the Eastern Conference standings and it gets even bigger tonight. The Bulls host Charlotte which is four games up on Chicago and while the likelihood of the Bulls catching the Bobcats is extremely slim, Chicago is more concerned about getting after Toronto. They are just a game and a half behind the Raptors who are in Philadelphia this afternoon but the result of that game will have no effect on how Chicago performs and win or lose, Chicago needs to keep winning. These must win games can be tricky and it is rare to play on a team that is in that must win position because the line value is heavily going the other way but that is not the case here and that is mostly because the Bobcats are not out of the woods just yet and they are also in position to still move up. Chicago is playing much better as it has won five of its last seven games and it quietly got Luol Deng back last night, who scored 14 points off the bench after missing 11 straight games with a calf injury. The Bobcats are coming off a hard fought overtime win last night against Milwaukee which put it a game behind the Bucks for sixth place and a game and half behind Miami for fifth place. It was another home win where Charlotte has been solid all season but now it hits the road where it is just 11-26 on the season. The Bobcats have gotten a lot better away from home after a horrid start and they are 8-12 in their last 20 road which isn’t great but it an improvement. However of those eight wins only two came against teams that are either in the playoffs or still in the hunt for the playoffs. Charlotte has been outstanding this season playing with no rest as it is 11-9 straight up but that includes a 3-6 record when going from home to away and that has easily been the biggest challenge. The home team has won the first two meetings of this series this season which is no surprise because of the home/road dichotomies. Chicago catches a very good line here tonight. 3* Chicago Bulls

The Bulls have really struggled to score as of late and while many may think a visit from the Knicks is a sure cure I am telling you it may not. In the Last 5 games the Knicks defense is giving up 10.7 fewer points per game including -2.6FG% and -10.63% from beyond the arch while the Bulls continue to struggle both offensively and defensively. The Knicks have continued to beat and play right with the quality teams in the conference and they would have had a nice road win @ Charlotte if it was not for a 4th quarter collapse that saw them get outscored by 15. Along with the defensive improvements the Knicks have improved offensively over the last 5 games and that’s against three of the top 11 defenses in Charlotte, Portland and Atlanta. They are +4.2 FG% and +8.4 3PT % as well as +1.4 rebound margin which they are at -5.1 for the season.

It should be a great battle highlighted between two centers who used to be team mates at Florida. Noah vs. Lee will be the highlight of the night and while Noah is putting up unreal numbers in rebounds Lee has the ability to score while Noah does not.
