In the 2010 regular season, San Francisco finished two games ahead of Texas. From 1905 through the 2010 MLB Semifinals, when MLB teams have had a 2 game regular season lead on their best-of-7 playoff series opponents they have posted a 5-6 (.455) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents.

MLB best-of-7 playoff series 1121 is the second best-of-7 playoff series for the Texas Rangers, and the eighth for the San Francisco Giants. In best-of-7 MLB playoff series, Texas has a 1-0 series record, a 0-0 Finals-round series record having never made is this far, and a 0-1 Game 1 record, while San Francisco has a 3-4 series record, a 0-3 Finals-round record, and a 4-3 Game 1 record. The Giants have the 3rd longest drought since their last Championship.

This series is the first best-of-7 MLB playoff series meeting between the Texas Rangers and the San Francisco Giants. The Giants have home field advantage here as the National League all star team snapped their long losing streak this summer. While the Giants are a small underdog here its worth noting that the team with the home field advantage has a 57-44 all time record, good for a 56% win rate.

While most of the country was expecting a Yankees and Philles series rematch from a few years ago, both Texas and San Francisco reached the World Series and both were underdogs in their Championship Series rounds. Texas has a strong hitting team and basically one real ace in C. Lee.

The Giants have a solid staff led by T. Lincecum and M.Cain. They also have impressive rookie Madison Bumgarner who has opened some eyes. The Giants do not have the hitting that Texas has. However they have a solid Bullpen led by lights out closer B. Wilson. The Giants were able to beat a solid hitting team in Philadelphia who may have had a stronger lineup than Texas. The Philles had what appeared to be a devastating pitching combination with Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels. The Giants were able to overcome the big pitching advantage as well as the home field in that series. So this looks to actually be an easier spot.

Look for the Giants to emerge as 2010 World Series Champs. RV

Whichever team you root for, enjoy the World Series and the Upcoming NBA Season.

An exciting week for the Rangers and Giants! October memories glare the brightest in baseball lore. Bobby Thompson’s 1951 home run, Don Larsen’s perfect game in Game 5 of the ’56 Series, Bob Gibson’s 17-strikeouts in Game 1 ’68, Carlton Fisk’s home run in ’75, Kirk Gibson’s blast in ’88, Joe Carter’s Series ending three-run homer in 1993. While home runs mostly dot the top of the memorial landscape, October baseball can also feature memorable defensive plays and great pitching performances from starters and relievers.

That is what led the surge of the Tampa Bay Rays remarkable run to the World Series two years ago, great defense and a deep young pitching staff. The team they lost to, the Phillies, had an ace in Cole Hamels who was the pivotal player last October with a dominating postseason. The Giants were a poor hitting team all season, ranked 17th in runs and 19th in on base percentage, yet made the 2010 postseason.

What was the most significant roster move the Phillies made last season? Trading for ace lefty Cliff Lee in midseason. They were less concerned with upgrading the offense, but far more focused on adding quality pitching. They were better because of it and got to another World Series. This season Lee was scooped up in midseason by the Texas Rangers and Lee continued his brilliant postseason dominance this fall.

This is important from a betting perspective, too, and was a key factor the Colorado Rockies surprised the oddsmakers in 2007. They were 100-to-1 to win the World Series before the season started. The Rockies’ pitching improved from 13th to in 2006 to 8th in 2007 in the NL, the same year they were tops in the majors in team defense with the fewest errors allowed.

The Yankees failed to win anything for eight straight years in October despite the highest payroll in the game. They finally wised up last season adding C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett, fixing huge holes in the pitching staff. The 2007 ALCS between Boston and Cleveland matched the No. 1 and No. 3 pitching staffs in the AL.

Taking a content analysis of the last 14 years of the World Series, you’ll notice that pitching and defense shine a bit more on the October stage than offense. Over that time there have been 44 unders, 35 overs and 2 pushes in World Series play. Is this a fluke? Or are there reasons for more low scoring games?

There are plenty of reasons for it. Since the World Series is the last battle of the season, managers aren’t going to go with their worst pitchers, but the best of their best. This is why you see three and four man rotations in the World Series, whereas in the regular season teams employ a five and sometimes six-man rotation. Simply put, the No. 4, 5 and 6 starters during the regular season aren’t going to see much (if any) important action in late October. The same is true for relief pitchers: A team generally has two or three quality relievers and three or four marginal/below average arms. Naturally, a manager is going to use his best often and go to his weakest arms only if necessary.

The Yankees led the majors in runs scored two years ago, scoring 76 more runs than the next best team. However, teams constructed solely around offense are built for the regular season. Teams stocked with a balanced lineups and excess pitching, both starting and in the bullpen, are built for October.

In addition, defense is a subtle, often overlooked aspect of baseball. There’s an old adage that teams win with pitching, hitting and defense, and that’s true. This is why you often see teams with outstanding center fielders, shortstops and catchers in the World Series because a team needs to be strong up the middle. Good defense helps your pitchers, turning double plays and keeping the other team from scoring.

Finally, the weather is far colder in October than in July and August, and it’s tougher to hit a baseball when it’s cold. When the World Series takes place in northern cities (Boston, New York, Cleveland, Philadelphia) it can be very cold in late October and early November. In 2006 the A’s and Tigers hooked up for Game 3 in Detroit. It was 42 degrees at game time, the lowest for a postseason game since it was 38 in Cleveland at the 1997 World Series. The final score? 3-0 Tigers, far under the total. Remember last year fans were bundled in parkas and blankets in Philly at Citizens Bank Park during the World Series.

In 2008, the under went 3-2 as the Phillies topped the Rays in five games. Six years ago, the Cardinals and Red Sox combined for 20 runs in Game 1 of the World Series in a sloppy, mistake-filled, walk-fest, sailing over the total. The next three games, however, went under the total in 6-2, 4-1 and 3-0 Red Sox wins. In the 2003 World Series between the Yankees and Marlins, five of the six games went under the total as pitching and defense excelled, capped by Josh Beckett’s 2-0 clincher at Yankee Stadium in game 6. So don’t be surprised if pitching and defense shines a bit more than offense as temperatures dip along with batting averages.

Game Analysis:

The Yankees did well to extend the series, but I like Texas to march into the World Series with a win on its home field tonight. Hughes was shelled in his Game 2 start at Texas, giving up 7 runs in 4 innings. That really doesn’t come as a huge surprise considering his road struggles throughout the season (4.25 road ERA). Hughes has often relied on the best run support in baseball to win games, but that lineup has been dealt a major blow due to the injury of Mark Teixeira. The Rangers are hitting .286 and scoring 5.3 runs/game at home this season, and I’m confident they’ll be able to get to Hughes. Then, Colby Lewis, who is sporting an ERA of 3.32 at home this season, should take care of the rest. The Rangers have won 6 of their last 8 against the Yankees, including 4 of their last 5 in Texas. Bet the Rangers.

Game Analysis:

The Under is worth a shot this afternoon, considering the overwhelming numbers in favor of it. In fact, plays Under on road teams, where the total is 8.5 to 10 (TEXAS), after 3 or more consecutive wins, in October games, are 60-21 since 1997. This system is 14-5 the last 3 seasons and 2-0 already this season. It is also worth noting that we are only seeing an average of 7.8 total runs scored in these games. Bet the Under this afternoon.

Yankees/Rangers OVER 8

Game Analysis:

The Rangers play in a great hitter’s park. With the power that both of these teams pack, I expect Game 1 to fly over this number. 3 of the last 4 meeting between these two clubs have seen at least 11 runs scored. In 24 games between these clubs over the last 3 seasons, we have seen an average of 10 runs scored per game. Sabathia and Wilson are both quality starters, but each has a career ERA of 4.29 or higher in this matchup. The Over is 5-0 in the Yankees’ last 5 during game 1 of a series, 6-1-1 in their last 8 playoff road games, 5-1 in their last 6 games vs. a left-handed starter and 10-3 in Sabathia’s last 13 starts as a favorite of -110 to -150. The Over is 9-4-2 in the Rangers’ last 15 home games and 3-1-1 in Wilson’s last 5 home starts. We’ll take the Over tonight.

No.4 rated handicapper in all sports over the last 60 days! Now is the perfect time to take advantage of some special offers I have going in college football and the NFL!

Grab my top rated college football play for Thursday night, as I have found three powerful systems that has either Nebraska or Kansas State covering the spread. I come in fresh off a big win last night, as I was all over UCF to cover the spread against UAB! Don’t miss out on a chance to make a huge profit heading into the weekend!

Rays -120

Game Analysis:

It’s gut-check time for Tampa Bay. Off Wednesday’s 5-1 home loss to the Rangers, the Devil Rays know they must pick up a victory in the second game of this American League Division Series or they’ll need to sweep the Rangers in Texas to force a game five.

Rays manager Joe Maddon will hand the ball to “Big Game James” Shields and ask him to step up one more time. In his final three starts of the year, Shields got rocked pretty good allowing 16 earned runs and 27 hits in 16.1 innings of work. That’s bad enough for an ugly 0-3 record and an enormous 8.82 ERA! Fortunately, James’ numbers at home are solid enough to keep me interested here. Inside the bubble at Tropicana Field, No. 33 has been scratched for 51 earned runs and 111 hits in 101.1 innings of work. That’s equates to a respectable 4.53 ERA!

Texas will counter with southpaw C.J. Wilson. Even though Wilson’s numbers are solid this season (15-8 record with a nifty 3.35 ERA), C.J.’s efforts in his last six starts weren’t the greatest. With 32.1 frames in the bank, the Newport Beach, California native got spanked for 21 earned runs and 34 hits. That adds up to a 3-3 record and an elevated 5.85 ERA!

If you need a little technical support to make this investment, consider the following: The Rays have feasted on left-handed pitching posting “W’s” in 33 of their last 49. Meanwhile, the visiting Rangers have slipped in the underdog role posting a dismal 5-13 SU record in their last 18 tries.

The Devil Rays have plenty of playoff experience on their roster and they’re not about to blink. As for the Rangers, they already accomplished their goal by winning at least one of the first two games. “Big Game James” gets the job done for the home team. Take Tampa Bay with listed pitcher Shields. Thank you and best of luck, Tom Stryker.

I am currently on an MLB tear that has my clients banking in huge profits almost every single day! 18-8 in my L26 (69%) in MLB Overall Plays (+1106) and 8-1 in my L9 (89%) MLB Top Plays (+698)

My road warrior is a near lock to come away with a win on Wednesday, so don’t miss the chance to cash in big with this play. The road team has three powerful systems at its back today, including one system that is 13-3 over the last two seasons! I am so confident that this play is a winner, I will Thursday for free if it loses!

Game Analysis:

Texas belts in the runs at home, but on the road, they average just 4.4 per game, leading to a 31-23 UNDER mark away from home. In 31 day games this season, they have managed to score only 3.8 runs per game. Tampa Bay averaged 5.5 per game on the road, but only 4.5 per game at home, leading to a 34-26 UNDER mark at home. Tampa Bay pitching has led the charge allowing a total of 22 runs in their last nine games, or less than 2.5 per contest. Texas is 50-24-3 to the UNDER in game three of a series with Tampa Bay right with them at 39-18-3, for a combined game three UNDER mark of 89-42-6. When facing a winning team, the Rangers are 78-55 UNDER the past two seasons. And, after a game in which they allowed 8+ runs, they are 29-13 UNDER dating back to last season. At home, the Rays are 14-4 UNDER this season to a total of 9 to 9.5. I like the UNDER here.

Game Analysis:

Smoking hot, 1-0 premium plays on Monday! Extends his streak to 4 of last 6 days showing profits! Get in today with a really, really big R/L play. This top 5 star R/L PLAY OF MONTH will win by at least 3 runs. Craig’s R/L plays of month are 9-3 going back to last years MLB Season. Get in today, don’t miss out!

TEX -1.5 (-110): good value on the hottest hitting team on the planet TEX Rangers. Add in they have ace Cliff Lee finally settled in and ready to dominate. Expect a near sell out to support the Rangers and really give this team a lift. Gonzalez goes for OAK and should keep them close early. But, he has only averaged about 6 innings and 3 runs allowed in last 3 starts. That’s not good enough to beat the best pitchers in last three years Cliff Lee. TEX blows this one open late as they really exploit an average bullpen.

Rangers -160

Game Analysis: The Rangers host the Angels for a four-game weekend set with the first game set for Thursday night at 8:05PM EST. Both teams enter tonight’s game coming off road trips, with the Angels coming off a loss to the Yankees yesterday while the Rangers lost in the Motor City to the Tigers. Los Angeles gave up ten runs in each of the two games they played against the Yankees in New York during that mini-series. They will send Jered Weaver to the bump in hopes he can stop the bleeding. Weaver is 1-2 his last three outings with a 5.12 ERA. He does have a win over this Rangers team it came in LA back on July 1st pitching 7 innings giving up no runs in a 2 to 1 victory. Texas is 15-4 (+13.6 Units) versus an AL starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.100 or better and 13-4 (+10.2 Units) versus a starting pitcher who gives up 5.5 or fewer hits per start this season. Texas is 31-19 at home this season scoring 5.8 runs per game with a batting average of .295 and an OBP of .359. The Rangers will send Cliff Lee to the hill with his 8-4 record and ERA of 2.59 on the year. Lee is 6-3 versus LA with an ERA of 3.18 over his career and 15-2 (+11.7 Units) as a home favorite of -150 to -175 over the last 3 seasons. A check of the database reveals a powerful league-wide system that tells us to Play AGAINST MLB road puppies in this line range with an OBP of .320 or less facing a team with a bullpen WHIP of 1.350 or better, with a bullpen whose WHIP is 1.550 or worse on the season. Playing against these road underdogs has produced a record of 43-9 the last five seasons for 82 percent winners and a profit of over 30 units. Lay the chalk with the host as the Rangers roll past the Halos on Thursday night.

PROJECTED FORECAST: 2* Texas Rangers 5 Los Angeles Angels 1
