MLB | Sep 01, 2010 New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves |
Atlanta Braves -170 at JAMAICA |
Won $100 |
| The New York Mets have once again had an unsuccessful season not worth very much in the end. The Mets have struggled all year long to stay afloat and seemingly looked like they could until this last month hit. The Braves began their climb back to the top of the NL East by stringing wins thanks to great pitching and timely hitting. So far this series, the Braves have taken both games from the Mets in blowout fashion. The most recent game saw the Braves scratch seven runs across thanks to a fielding error by the Mets which fits perfectly with the theme of the New York season. As we enter this game on Wednesday we see it will be Mike Pelfrey on the mound for the Metropolitans. Pelfrey has taken part in three seasons this year. When the season began Mike was unhittable, and then that led to a spell where Pelfrey was getting hit up no matter what pitches he threw. Now, once again, it seems Mike Pelfrey has found his ace-like stuff as he has given up only four earned runs in his last 30 innings pitched spanning four games where he has gone 3-1. One team that has had Pelfrey's number over the eyars has been Atlanta who with 76 innings of work under his belt against the Braves his career era stands a 5.45. On the road this season Pelfrey has compiled a 4.62 era. The Mets just can't find ways to score runs anymore this season and it seems Pelfrey might need to shut out the Braves if he hopes to get the win. The Altanta Braves will be sending young star Tommy Hanson to the mound for the start. Hanson who has has given up two earned runs in 17 2/3 innings of work lifetime against the Mets posting a 1-1 record against New York with one complete game under his belt. The Braves continue to produce young talent from their farm system that just keep producing in the majors and it has paid dividends for them in the long run this season. Young pitchers and young hitters have become the soul of the Atlanta Braves as they lead the NL East and turn the final corner into September. TAKE ATLANTA MINUS HERE. | ||

MLB | Sep 01, 2010 Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Indians |
Chicago White Sox -137 at 5DIMES |
Won $100 |
| The Cleveland Indians have dropped two in a row to Chicago as the bullpen has failed them. Justin Masterson pitched as well as he could as he went seven and two thirds innings allowing four hits and a run while striking out seven but Joe Smith took the loss leaving two on the base paths when Frank Herman allowed a three run homer. Cleveland took the lead on a Shelley Duncan home run and had eight hits total, including a Jason Donald two run single in the ninth but they came up just short. The loss was their third in a row and seventh in their last 10 games for Cleveland who are 22 and a half games out and are just days away from being officially eliminated. For game three against Chicago Cleveland starts Carlos Carrasco who saw limited action last season. Carraso was 0-4 with an 8.87 in 22 and a third innings pitched a year ago. The Chicago White Sox didn't get a plate appearance from Manny Ramirez but they didn't need it as they rallied late to get the win in Cleveland. Edwin Jackson allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out 11 in eight and two-thirds innings of work to get his third win since being traded to Chicago while Bobby Jenks got his 25th save. A.J. Pierzynski hit his seventh home run of the season, a three run job that gave the White Sox the lead in the eighth inning while Juan Pierre had two hits. The win was the sixth in the last 10 games for Chicago as they continue to chase the Minnesota Twins. For game three in Cleveland Chicago starts Freddie Garcia who has exceeded all expectations this year. For the season Garcia has allowed 156 hits and 75 earned runs while striking out 81 in 138 innings of work. Cleveland is 6-15 in their last 21 overall, 0-4 in Carrasco's last four starts as an underdog, and 3-10 in their last 13 against the AL Central. Chicago is 37-18 in their last 55 against a right-handed starter, and 14-6 in Garcia's last 20 starts. TAKE THE WHITE SOX MINUS HERE. | ||

MLB | Sep 01, 2010 Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers |
Philadelphia Phillies +103 at 5DIMES |
Won $103 |
|
Clayton Kershaw is still in search of his first victory over Philadelphia, with a career record of 0-3 and 5.67 ERA in five starts. He has relied on his dominant stuff to mow through pitchers for the majority of the year, recording 180 strikeouts in only 170 innings of work. Los Angeles has played pretty well of late, winning six of their last ten and sitting 5.5 games behind the wild card leading Phils. After having his worst month of the year James Loney will be ready for the calendar to turn, hitting only .214 during the month of August. Roy Oswalt has definitely settled in with his new team and put together an excellent month of August, going 3-0 with an ERA of 1.53 and opponents batting only .195. He has historically pitched successfully against Los Angeles with a 7-3 record and ERA of 3.11 in ten starts. Philadelphia has played poorly of late winning only four of their last ten, allowing teams like Colorado and Los Angeles to start to close the gap in the standings. Chase Utley has returned to the team but still looks to be suffering from injury, batting only .184 in 13 games back. This matchup features two shut down pitchers, so the offenses look to have their hands full in this one. It is unclear how the Dodgers will respond to the loss of Manny, but the club seems to believe it will be a positive thing. However, on this particular day I would favor Philadelphia because of their track record against Kershaw, and the fact that Oswalt may be the hottest pitcher in the league right now.
