Craig's NCAAB Top 10 Power Rankings Report (02-20-2009)
Power Rankings for college basketball have seen huge changes in the past month with many previously top 10 teams no where to found now. Craig uses his ever changing power rankings as one of his major handicapping tools in determining winners. Also assists Craig in setting his own spreads to help indicate spreads that Craig thinks are value plays because of lines are weak. Now lets look at Craig of CT SPORTS PICKS and check out his power rankings for college basketball.

1. North Carolina- Very close between UNC and Pittsburgh for the #1 spot. UNC stays at the top spot in Craig's power rankings because the talent level on UNC is just a little better than the Pittsburgh team. UNC still has struggled against the middle of the pack in the ACC which is a little concerning.

2.Pittsburgh- Very impressive win at UCONN this week moves them up one spot in Craig's weekly power rankings. Big East conference is the best conference and Pitt will carry there flag proudly. Not quite as good defensively as they have been in recent years but are much better offensively with Blair and Young both able to get 20 plus in any given game.

3.UCONN- Huskies drop one spot and switch positions with Pitt this week. Poor performance at home but still only has two losses on the year. Thabeet and Adrian have dominated all year but Blair completely outplayed both of them together. Price must pick up the scoring to make up for the loss of Dyson to injury. This UCONN team will rebound and will be looking forward to the rematch with Pittsburgh.

4.Oklahoma- Griffin has been the best player in all of college basketball all year and has carried his team to a 25-1 record. This team though has really not played anybody great all year and think that come tournament time this might really hurt them. Upcoming schedule will be much tougher with two tough games against Kansas and at Texas.

5.Louisville- Not going to over react to a tough loss at Notre Dame this past week. Got off to a bad start in this game and could not recover. Best defensive team Pitino has had at Louisville and are a very tough talented team. Need Sosa, Clark, and Williams to play more consistent down the stretch. When these threes players are all playing well they can play with anyone ask Pittsburgh.

6.Wake Forest- Even though this team has had some recent tough losses there talent is unbelievable. The good Wake team destroyed UNC on the boards and even outplayed them in and up and down game. Teague needs to keep improving and this team will be very tough to beat in the tournament.

7.Marquette- Not many teams can score with this team. The best trio of scorers in the country with McNeal, Matthews, and James. Only weakness is rebounding against teams with a big lineup. Should be interesting rest of the season with games against UCONN, Pitt, and U of L. If they win 2 out of 3 you will know this team is for real and a huge threat to get to the final 4.

8.Duke- Craig has been all over the board with this Duke team having them as high as #2 in the power rankings three weeks ago. UNC first half shows everyone how good they can play but that effort and intensity has not been there every game. Coach K must stop the slide and get this team back playing well.

9.Michigan State- Not many great wins on there resume but they have been consistent other than the Purdue game on Tuesday. The big question is the Big Ten any good this year. Need to lock down on defense for 40 minutes not 20 minutes like they did at Purdue in a loss on Tuesday.

10.Villanova- Played very poorly at a loss at WVU but this team is very explosive offensively and are very tough to guard for most teams. Have beat Marquette and Pittsburgh both top 10 ranked teams. This team in any other league would most likely be the top team in the league!

Several teams are very close for the top 10 and with some key match ups in the Big East and ACC this coming week expect these Power Rankings to be ever changing. Very competitive top 20 this year has led for a ton of so called upsets and its not even close to over yet. Less than 4 weeks until the NCAA tournament starts we can't wait!
