Jack's Free Pick Wednesday: New York Knicks -6.5

The New York Knicks are 5-1 SU in their last six games overall with three wins by 15 or more points all at home.  They are 8-3 SU at home this season and will have a huge home-court advantage with fans excited about them hosting a NBA Cup game Wednesday night.

A big reason the Knicks are playing so well right now is due to being as healthy as they have been all season.  They are only without Mitchell Robinson, who they have been without all season.  Josh Hart is listed as questionable but I'm expecting him to play as he plays through any injury and finished their last game against Toronto.

The addition of Karl-Anthony Towns has made the kind of impact the Knicks were hoping it would when they traded for him in the offseason.  The Knicks actually rank 1st in the entire NBA in offensive rating.  Of course, they gave up some defense and were out of sync on that end in the early going, but they have really picked it up of late and are starting to gel defensively.  The Knicks are 4th in the NBA in defensive rating in their last six games, allowing 103.0 points per game during this stretch.

The Atlanta Hawks are also playing well right now going 6-1 SU & 4-3 ATS in their last seven games.  That is largely due to getting healthy, but they have also caught teams at the right times as well.  I think their true colors showed last time out when despite being on the 2nd of a back-to-back, the Nuggets blasted them by 30 points in Atlanta.

Injuries are becoming a problem now for the Hawks again.  Both Jalen Johnson (19.8 PPG, 9.9 RPG) and Bogdan Bogdanovic (12.4 PPG) are questionable to play Wednesday, while De'Andre Hunter (19.3 PPG) and Trae Young (20.9 PPG, 12.2 APG) are expected to play through injury.  That's four of their top five scorers.

Towns is a matchup nightmare for the Hawks.  Clint Capela does not do well guarding big men in space, and he will give Towns all the space he wants.  Towns had 34 points and 16 rebounds in their first meeting this season.

The Knicks rank 6th in net rating this season at +7.1 while the Hawks rank 19th at -2.8.  The Hawks are 20th in offensive rating and 19th in defensive rating.  They are far and away the worst team to advance to the quarterfinals in the NBA Cup.  Bet the Knicks Wednesday.
