Thursday's Free MLB Pick
PLAY ON: Braves -101
My selection is on the 'under' between Philadelphia and Atlanta at 8:15 pm et on Thursday.
We've seen some higher-scoring results than expected so far in this Wild Card round but I look for runs to come at a premium in this third and deciding game between the Phillies and Braves on Thursday night. Home runs have been the story in this series so far but we will see a shift to a night game and we'll note that the ball generally doesn't carry as well in cooler evening temperatures at Truist Park. While taxed bullpens can often lead to high-scoring results at the end of the series, that's not really at play here as the Phillies used just one true reliever (starter Andrew Painter being the other) in yesterday's game while the Braves have plenty of rested arms after using the same three relievers in each of the last two contests. Take the under (8*).
FRANK’S CUTTING ROOM FLOOR FOR THURSDAY, 10/1:
My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Thursday is with Over the Total in the game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves. Philadelphia (89-75) forced a climactic Game Three in this National League Wild Card playoff series with their 4-3 win in ten innings on Wednesday. The Phillies have played 14 of their last 24 games Over the Total after a victory by one run. They have also played 5 of their last 7 games on the road Over the Total against teams with a winning record. Atlanta (95-69) has played 9 of their last 14 home games Over the Total against teams with a winning percentage in the 54-62% range. The Braves have also played 15 of their last 25 games at home Over the Total against fellow NL East rivals, including 5 of their last 6 games Over the Total hosting the Phillies. Take the Over. Best of luck — Frank.

I am looking for a higher-scoring game than the books are looking for. Kerr is an opener, and Atlanta will have to go to their pen early. The Braves' pen has been great all season but couldn't hold the lead last night. Nola has been inconsistent this season.
